The Municipality of Dimiao was officially declared a town on January 22, 1769. How it got its
name is not known. It is one of the old towns in the province of Bohol. In the olden times, the town used to occupy a much
larger territory, including those which now comprises the municipalities of Valencia and Lila.
Dimiao nestles along the southeastern part of Bohol, 36.7 kilometers away from the City of Tagbilaran
and 27 kilometers away from the satellite growth center of Jagna. Approximate travel time from the City of Tagbilaran using
public utility vehicle is approximately 45 minutes, passing along the beautiful and white sandy beaches of Bohol.
The town is bounded on the north by the municipality of Bilar; on the South by Mindanao Sea; on the
East by the Municipality of Valencia; and on the West by the Municipality of Lila.
Three-fourths of the town's topography is moderately undulating and rolling land, sloping in many directions
and with a few mountainous and hilly areas concentrated on the northwest boundary of Dimiao and its neighboring town, Bilar.
The town has thirty-five(35) barangays, comprising a total land area of approximately 135.75 square
kilometers. Per result of the 1995 census of population totaled 12,372. In 1998, it had an annual income of 12,042,852.80
and was classified as 5th class municipality.
Being a coastal town, Dimiao is easily accessible by means of land transportation. The average number
of public utility vehicles plying different routes passing the municipality is approximately 15 units per hour.
The town's climate is generally warm and dry along the coast, cold and humid in the interior barangays.
Majority of its residence speak Cebuano dialect with a distinction Dimiaonon accent. Although Tagalog
and English are widely spoken, they are clearly understood by them.
The town being predominantly agricultural area, the principal industries of its people are farming,
fishing, mat weaving, rope making, tuba gathering and livestock raising. Its handicraft industry, food processing and woodworking,
although still in its macro level, are now being considered potential in the local market.
